Venue

The Municipal House, a prime example of Art Nouveau architecture in Prague, is located on Republic Square, near the Powder Tower and Hybernia Theatre. Known for hosting cultural events like concerts and exhibitions, it was built on the historic site of King’s Court, a former royal residence for rulers such as Wenceslas IV, Sigismund of Luxembourg, and Vladislaus II. The building marks the start of the Royal Route and was where coronation processions of Czech kings began.

Construction of the Municipal House began in 1905 and was completed in 1912, designed by architects Antonín Balšánek and Osvald Polívka. It played a significant role in Czech history, including the declaration of Czechoslovakia in 1918 and meetings during the Velvet Revolution in 1989. The building underwent major renovations between 1994 and 1997.

The Municipal House features contributions from leading Czech artists, including a mosaic by Karel Špillar. Inside, visitors can enjoy restaurants, cafés, and the iconic Smetana Hall, a 1,259-seat venue for concerts. Designed by Balšánek, the hall is known for its Art Nouveau decor and grand organ. It remains a key venue for the Prague Spring music festival.

We invite you to attend a special concert in the stunning Smetana Hall at the Municipal House.
